present the many complexities associated with this growing disease. It
will present the economic impacts and stresses placed on the healthcare
system and its professionals. It will discuss the perceptions and
stigmas associated with obesity as well as various treatment
strategies. And, it will present the critical intervention
opportunities for case management in addressing the problem of obesity.
Our Nation’s Multiculturalism and Challenges to Case Managers
The latest U.S. Census presented a clear picture of our nation’s increasing diversity. But what does our increased multiculturalism represent for case managers? This program presents our nation’s newest demographics and the many new considerations multiculturalism introduces into the healthcare equation. It probes the beliefs and traditions of various ethnic groups and how they influence healthcare decision-making and behaviors. It explores how our nation’s healthcare system is evolving to better address the needs of various ethnic groups. It also discusses the new demands multiculturalism is placing on case managers and how best to meet these demands.

With the increasing complexity of healthcare today, there’s a growing need for improved health literacy. In this program, we’ll look at the contributing factors, from advanced medical technologies and pharmaceuticals to managed care processes. America is graying and that fact has introduced new challenges to our healthcare systems and its professionals. Along with increased numbers of elderly requiring care for various age-related diseases and medical conditions, come new impacts on geriatric care managers. In this program, we will look at the way gray is affecting healthcare and the new opportunities it creates for case managers.

Among the most challenging care situations for case managers is serving a dying patient and his/her family. Understanding the emotional, medical, patient rights and palliative care aspects of care for the dying patient is vital.
